I did get my new Vectra at a healthy discount by using the web and originally was very pleased with it. I was less happy with its reliability especially having to have the clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced at 70,000 miles. It cost nearly £2000. Even though it was just out of warranty, GM agreed to reimburse part of the cost BUT then halved the sum and denied having made the original offer. Car is now performing well but I am still nervous about the possibility of more problems. The car does have a massive amount of space.

vauxhall Vecrta Design 1800cc, Very spacious and comfortable, very large boot area. Main downside is fuel running costs very high, seems to eat fuel very quickly.

I've been driving Vauxhall cars since 1995, all my previous cars where Astras, this time I decided to change my car to a Vectra having taken several test drives in various models. I have now owned my Vectra for 4 years, in that time I have driven over 50,000 miles on both country, town and motorways. I have come up with the following:- The car is very comfortable, been over 6 feet tall and spending around 1 hour a day driving each way to work, comfort is very important as is it been easy to drive. The most I have driven in 1 day was over 400 miles which took about 9 hours to do when I drove down to Cornwall last year for my nephew's passing out parade. (It took us 8 hours to drive back!). The boot space is excellent as we do a shop every week and my wife also does extra shopping for her school's breakfast club, so quiet often we have 5 or more large bags of shopping in the boot, and there's still enough space for more. Like most vehicles these days, the cost of petrol, insurance and wear & tear always adds to the joys of motoring. In those 4 years I estimate that I have spent over £1,500 on MOTs, Services and replacing parts worn out due to wear caused by the poor condition of some roads I drive on. Insurance is reasonable and as ever 'shop around' for the best deal. I spend on average £38.00 a week on petrol, a little less now prices have dropped below £1.30 per litre. I will probably replace my car next year and will probably be an Insignia!

GOOD RELIABLE FAMILY CAR

I bought this car primarily because of its very large boot space, sufficient for my mobility scooter to be driven up into it on ramps. Unfortunately I didn't think about the disadvantages of its large wheels and very wide, hugely expensive tyres, which give a rather rough ride and will cost about £1000 per set to replace, or its stiffened suspension, which exaggerates even the slightest bump.

NEVER LET US DOWN & IS COMFORTABLE PARTICULRLY ON MOTORWAYS

I have had my Vectra for 5 years and have had minimal problems with it and have now done 40000 miles. The average mpg is 45.2 during that period which is acceptable in my opinion.

It is extremely practical. Converts from an elegant saloon to a serious load carrier in seconds. The performance and fuel economy of the 150bhp engine is excellent. In fact it is a good all round car with one exception - engine reliability. It has cost approx £2500 in repairs to keep the engine running for the last 20,000 miles! For this reason I do not propose to buy another one!

Great tow car for smallish caravan.

I bought this car second hand as a stop gap after my previous larger estate became too expensive to keep on the road due to its age and engine problems. Apart from a failed fuel pump and an occasionally sticking electric boot, it has performed OK. The ride is a bit firm but road holding is good. Rear view vision could be better. I get about 32 mpg which is not that good by present standards so I am looking to downsize in the near future. I find the estate useful for transporting rubbish to the tip, furniture removal and taking friends on golf trips with all our bags and trolleys.

I bought my car used but only 10 months old, I've had some issues with the car most of which can be put down to general wear & tear, and some that lasted longer than they should due to inept mechanics! I aim to change the car within the next year but not through dissatisfaction, just because i want a change; and also to get one that costs less on tax as this does. generally It's been a workhorse and very reliable, economy is pretty good, can't quote MPG but I used to travel up and down the country from Somerset to Yorkshire every week which accrued around 500 miles, which was well within the range of the car. Space wise I'll struggle to match it when i replace it, the amount my wife can cram in on our hols to cornwall is phenomenal! Running costs are very manageable although I guess that's relative to your personal budget constraints, having said that the longer I have it the more things cost. All in all I'd be happy to recommend it as a good reliable and safe family car.

Reliability and comfort good, as is space but it is very expensive to run.
